As we are getting into warmer days of spring trout fishing on the Little Red River, we anticipate the current heavy generation pattern to change to a more scheduled generation pattern providing favorable water levels for wade fishing & drift fishing. Due to the heavy generation and lack of fishing pressure, we anticipate spring fishing to be excellent. As we see lower river levels with sunny days to heat the water surface, we should begin to see our normal spring hatches of caddis and mayflies. Streamers, San Juan worms, caddis/mayfly nymphs and sowbugs will work well for fly fishers. For Trout Magnet fishing, use hot pink, cotton candy and purple colored bodies on gold and chartreuse jig heads. Always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Corps of Engineers Little Rock District water data system (501.362.5150) for Greers Ferry Dam water release information or check the Corps of Engineers website (swl-wc.usace.army.mil) for real time water release and the Southwest Power Administration (swpa.gov) to see forecasted generation schedule.
